My name is Cecil Bayona, my main hobby is ham radio. I am currently have an Extra license as k5nwa. Other interest are photography, computer programming, and design of electronic equipment.
I live in North West Arkansas (NWA) which is located approximately around the center of the United States of America. My original license was KD5NWA which I received from the FCC as the next call to be assigned, my son Michael is KD5NWC. Later through the vanity program I asked for K5NWA a license that had never been issued since it was one letter shorter.
I have several domains I own and I’m starting a Ham Radio Parts business as a retirement project, my goal is to have close to 700 parts by the time I retire in six years so the hobby can be self supporting. After about 8 month I have over 200 parts in stock not all (50) available yet at the store. The store is called “The Parts Place” as of this time it’s not advertised as open but it is on a trial basis so I can take the time and correct the sites problems before letting various list know I’m open for business.
Concerning www.softrockradio.org;
The above site will be undergoing changes over the next several month, the focus will not be on SoftRocks only but will include many other subjects with SoftRocks being a small part.
Concerning this site www.k5nwa.com, It’s current form (WordPress) is an interesting vehicle, and I will continue using it as a test to the possibilities of using WordPress for personal use. It will contain information and references to projects and subjects I’m interested in such as Ham Radio, Software Defined Radios, small CPUs, and Linux programming.
I have been ill lately so I have not done much with some of my projects but it’s slowly coming under control.
My immediate interest is testing and playing with several areas, parametric mixers and amplifiers, RF tunnel diode applications, and sub-harmonic mixers using anti-parallel diodes, all of these will be examined for use with Software Defined Radios and simple Direct Conversion receivers.
Interest in the above mentioned subjects was sparked by a visit to the web site of Michael Rainey, his is an interesting site with several projects not normally seen in ham sites, please do pay a visit to his site. Related to these subjects is the use of Schottky power diodes as cheap Varactors and in RF power amplification and mixing.
